Dropping Deep with Nomad The Streaker Micro Jigs
You’ve all heard the term, Match the Hatch. Well, the new Nomad Streaker Micro Jigs do just that. They are tiny and powerful little jigs that might just be what you are looking for.
With all of the hype right now around deep drop knife jigs, I wanted to take a look at something a bit out of the ordinary and went with the “micro jig.” The bait I’ll be looking at today is the Nomad The Streaker Series 40g Micro Jig. These are built just like their bigger siblings, just small and compact, and built for the fish that are keyed in and targeting small micro baits such as schools of anchovy.
Nomad Streaker Micro Jig Specs
As with all of my bait reviews, I’ll start with the packaging and go through a full look at these baits from top to bottom.
Package Makes Perfect
The packaging on the Nomad Streaker Micro Jig is pretty straight forward. Standard PVC sleeve with paper backer card and hand tag Nothing super exciting, but it does have a nice clean look. It clearly states what the jigs name is right along the top and boldly states the jig size at the bottom right. No doubt that this is a 40g jig.
The back of the packaging is also straight forward. It has the name of the jig series along the top section, also specifying that they are constructed with BKK premium hooks. There is a simple description of the bait mid package with a few graphics of the bait. Then from there, website and barcode featuring the actual model number of this bait. It is boldly printed, so no squinting required for this packaging. Good job Nomad!
Top Down to go Deep
In looking through my photos, it doesn’t appear that I have a good shot of the top end of the jig. But you can probably get a decent enough look at it in the image below. It is a solid ring top section with no split rings.
Slim Body for a Quick Drop
This shot will also give you the overall size of the jig. Coming in at only 4 1/2″, these baits are small. You can see the really slim profile and very rounded front. This particular jig features a striped glow pattern. You can really see it here on the front.
In the above image, you can see the jig size clearly stenciled in at the top end as well as the big eye right down at the hook section. Here is a better shot of the big eye down below.
The underside of the jig features a flatter side than the front. You can also get a good look at the prismatic finish that Nomad uses on their The Streaker Micro Jigs. This prism finish gives the jig a lot of additional flash when coming through the water.
The slim body of these jigs really allow you to get down deep fast. Even though this is only a 40g jig, it does get down fast. With the rounded front side and flat belly side, it does allow for some erratic fall action which can slow it down as they drop. And believe me, there is nothing wrong with that at all. The more time in the water column where the fish are holding the better.
One other thing you can see in the image above is that this jig has a solid ring at the butt section as well. Same as the head. Though the butt section features a heavy duty split ring with two assist hooks attached.
Time to Get Hooked! Nomad The Streaker Micro Jig
As mentioned above, the Streaker Micro Jig has a split ring that actually leads to a set of assist hooks. They don’t reference the size on these, but if you do plan to chase after big fish, you might want to upgrade a bit. Though these are very stout hooks as they mention BKK hooks on the packaging. They are very sharp and feel quite stout.
The other nice feature that you can see in the image above is the feathered hook design. Feathered hooks certainly are not a necessity, but do help in the flash and anything to draw in additional bites is nice.

Conclusion on the Nomad The Streaker Micro Jigs
Overall, these are very nice and well built little baits. You may not be chasing giant cow bluefin with these, but they should do just fine on the fun-sized yellowfin and bluefin that cruise our local waters. They will also work great when making those deep drops for some fish taco filling during rockfish season.
