Salty Crew Slinger 6-Pack Cooler Bag | Multi-Use Fun!
Wait, what? At the beginning of the day I set out to do a full review on the Salty Crew Slinger Insulated 6-Pack Cooler Bag as a cooler bag alone. BUT…I found another really cool use for it, a travel rod bag.
I am still going to go through the Salty Crew Slinger as a full cooler, but will also give you my thoughts on a very cheap, but convenient travel rod sling bag as well.

As with all of my product reviews, the first thing I want to talk about is packaging. It is the first thing you see when in a store, and I like to talk about it.
The Salty Crew Slinger Insulated Cooler Bag is very simple in its packaging design. In fact, there is none! It simply has a hang tag with all of the product info on it.
The front of the hang tag is simple as you can see above with only the Salty Crew logo. Nice and clean.
The bag of the tag has a bit more info on it such as SKU, bar code, item name and color as well as website and social info. Still pretty clean.
First Look at the Salty Crew Slinger Insulated Cooler Bag
When you first take a look at the Salty Crew Slinger Insulated Cooler Bag, it simply looks like a camouflage colored, tube shaped sling bag with a big ol’ logo on the front. Well yeah, it is.
If you take a hard look at it, you will notice that this bag doesn’t have a standard como pattern to it at all, but actually has a few fish hidden within the pattern.
As far as the external features go, there really isn’t a lot to it. An adjustable sling strap and a zipper pull, and that’s about it.
The adjustable strap feels pretty nice. Nice thick nylon with beefy plastic hardware.
The zipper is pretty straight forward as well, with a string style pull.
What is the Salty Crew Slinger designed for?
What is the Salty Crew Slinger ultimately designed for? Well, its a cooler actually. This bag is designed to keep cool a full 6-pack of your favorite canned beverage. In this case, I’ll use soda as the example. Diet Coke is my kryptonite, so that is ALWAYS something I have on hand. Obviously you can use something a bit stronger as well, but this is just to show off standard size cans. If you are a Tall-Boy type of angler, this might not work for you, or maybe you’ll only get a 5-Pack.
Now this bag touts holding a full 6-pack, and I’ve seen photos, so here we go.
Look at that, a full 6-pack slid right on in and had a bit of wiggle room at either end of the cans.
Once zipped up, they were in there nice and snug.
Now for the Cool Part!
As I was sitting on the ground, getting ready to shoot an upcoming travel rod piece, I happened to lay the bag right next to the travel rods I had laying out. As soon as I did, a giant lightbulb went off. And not one of those fancy LED ones either, but a good old fashioned High Wattage, Incandescent kind!
As an angler who travels a lot, and generally always has my travel rods with me, this seemed like an absolute no brainer. The rod I was shooting was the new Okuma Voyager Freshwater Rods. Those particular rods happen to come with a nice padded case, but it got me thinking. A lot of times I get to where I am going and assemble my rods at my car. Once I do that, the bag goes in the trunk, I grab my cooler and off I go hiking to my fishing destiny.
Now with the Slinger, I can pack my rod for the travel portion. Unpack the rod and get it all assembled and ready to go. Then I can fill the Slinger up with my favorite tasty beverages and be onto my next fish story. Brilliant, I know!
As you can see above, the inside of the Slinger is nicely padded as it is ultimately a cooler. With it being padded, I don’t have too much worry about my rods getting scratched up or dinged. Zip it up, and on my way!
Conclusion
Believe me, I totally know that this is not what these are designed for, but I WILL be utilizing them that way. I’m a marketing genius!
Overall, these are a great little over-the-shoulder sling style cooler bag that will work great to pack up a 6-pack of your favorite canned beverage, but why stop there. They also make a great Travel Rod holder…on accident. Like I said, use it to pack your rods to get to your location. Unpack and assemble your rods. Fill the sling with you bevs. Then throw it over your shoulder, grab your travel rod and on the way you go!
And the best part…this thing is only $30. Can’t beat that.
