Fin-Nor Hells Bay Sunglasses
There is nothing like a great pair of sunglasses when you are out fishing. They really do make a difference in your day-to-day life as well as in your time on the water. Sunglasses are key as not only eye protection from that lure that just sprung loose from a tree, but also to cut glare and keep you comfortable and give you just a bit of an edge when looking for fish. In this article I will walk through the Fin-Nor Hells Bay Sunglasses and will give you the pro’s and con’s of these sunglasses.
Specs on the Specs
First Look at the Fin-Nor Hells Bay Sunglasses
As with every product review that Fishing Tackle Insider does, I like to give you a look at the packaging of the product I am going to review. In the case of the Fin-Nor Hells Bay Sunglasses, they come in a nice rigid color box.
Each box has a big sticker right on the end letting you know what is inside. That is pretty nice. In this case, the HEY 004 BMGG or the Hells Bay MT Black/Oak Grain with the Fade Blue Mir-Grey Glass.
Nice Rigid Case Included
The Fin-Nor glasses come with a nice sturdy black carrying case. There is a full zipper that locks them up tight. The Fin-Nor logo is embossed right on the front which is a nice touch.
When you unzip and open up your case you get your first look at your new glasses.
When you pull out your new glasses you will find a cleaning cloth, warranty info and some Fin-Nor stickers. That is always a nice touch and free branding for the company if you decide to use them.
First Look at the Fin-Nor Hells Bay Sunglasses
The design I chose was the Black with Oak Grain and a Blue mirrored lens. They say the blue lenses help in offshore applications.
In looking at the frames of the glasses the first thing I noticed was that the frames were a bit wider right at the base. They weren’t extremely wide or anything, just wider than some of the glasses I have worn in the past.
They feature a nice and lightweight frame with a 7-layer lens design. To find out more about the lens technology that Fin-Nor uses, you can read about it here on their technology page. Fin-Nor Lenses
Starting at the frames, we’ll take a full look at the glasses now.
The frame arms have a nice rubber area that go over your ears for comfort.
On those arms you will also see the style name, Hells Bay as well as the frame color code – 004. The hinge is a nice spring loaded metal design that will hopefully last for some time.
Looking at the opposite arm, you will see that these were designed and manufactured in Italy.
The Nose Knows
Moving around the inside of the glasses, you will notice a nice soft and adjustable nose plate. You can adjust these sides in and out to come up with a more comfortable custom fit.
Here is a better look at the nose plate.
Looking Through the Lenses
As mentioned above, the Fin-Nor sunglasses are available in either a polycarbonate or glass lens and offer a Grey, Blue Mirror, or Green Mirror, and Silver color lens. I happen to have the glass version with the blue lens.
From the outside you can see the blue tint that is design for Offshore Fishing and Bright/Sunny conditions.
On the inside, you can see that you get an amber type look as you are looking out of the lenses.
Here is a full look at the lens technology that Fin-Nor uses on their sunglasses. This shows you the full stacking process that they use to create these performance lenses.
Repairs and Warranty on Fin-Nor Sunglasses
Fin-Nor looks to offer repairs and warranty on their sunglasses. It looks like they spell out what the charges are for repairs and replacements right on their website which at least will give you an idea of what to expect if you should have an issue. Check out the full repair info here at REPAIRS.
Folding up this Review
Overall, I really do like these sunglasses. I have owned many pairs of glasses in my like and have put the to the test in many setting on and off the water. I have now had this particular pair of sunglasses since the Pacific Coast Sportfishing Show of 2023, so almost one full year, and they are holding up great. I know I mentioned that I would list the cons, but I really haven’t found any on these glasses other than maybe the price. They are a high-end performance sunglass, so you can expect to pay a bit for these as they come in at roughly $199.99.
As I close this review, I’ll show you a pic of the closed-up sunglasses below. Nice and compact!
