Packaging

The packaing on these pliers is pretty straight forward. They are in a Clam Style platic, hangable packaging. The bottom of the aluminum handles are exposed on this packaging.

The front of the package has a brief desctiptions of what the item is.

Not a whole lot going on on the back of the packaging as well. Keep it clean with the less is more look. There is a bit of text about not littering, nice touch, but the majority is just some super basic info.

Pitbull Tackle Aluminum Plier Overall Appearance

Overall, this is an attractive set of pliers. The light blue looks is nice and clean, with the black nose section gives it a great look.

Starting Down…Way Down

Starting down at the bottom of these pliers, first thing to notice is that these are a solid aluminum plier. There is no grip or cover at all on the aluminum. Next thing to notice is that there are two holes drilled for attaching a laniard. Some fisherman like a laniard on their pliers and some don’t. With the holes drilled and you are a laniard fisherman, have at it. Personally, I like a laniard and will be adding one to mine.

Spring is in the Air – But not these Pliers

One thing to note on the Pitbull Tackle Aluminum Plier is that it does not have a spring loaded mechanism to open/close. These are a manual operation plier. No problem there at all as most of this particular style, and there are a bunch, don’t have a spring loaded system. But something to note in case that is a feature that you are looking for.

Without the spring loaded mechanism, you need a strong, yet moveable connection. Here is a look at the backside of the plier with the screw in connector. Not sure if this really shows you anything, but heck, I took the picture, so might as well use it.

Cut to the Chase

Moving up to the cutters on this set of pliers, you see that they are offset. I have seen this style plier with the cutter offset like this, as well as right in the middle, more like a standard cutter. But these are offset. Oddly, this is one of the first pliers that I have seen that does not specifically call out the material of their cutters. Some list “Carbide Blades” or “Diamond Cut” or something to that effect. These don’t. I can tell you that they cut through my 65lb Braid very nicely. I also cut through some 80lb monofilament very nicely as well. Those are my two testing weights.

The Nose Knows Needle Nose

Now working our way all the way to the top of the Pitbull Tackle Aluminum Plier, you come to the Needle Nose portion. These are a bolted on, different material than the rest of the handle. Again, nothing called out as far as material goes on these.

The Needle Nose has some very pronounced teeth for gripping. I don’t know if I’d try to loosten any bolts with these, but for grabbing hooks to pull out of fishes mouths, they should work perfect.

Here is a shot of the bolt on, attached nose from a different angle. Unfortunatley the screw didn’t come out completely clear, but it looks to be an allen style head to it. You’d hae to take the plier completely appart to access this part though.

Size Does Matter

These pliers are listed as a 7.5″ plier. They did measure that length, but I just wanted to give you an overall look as I hold them in my hand.

Conclusion

The Pitbull Tackle Aluminum Plier is a nice set of pliers/cutters. If you are looking for a good basic set for the boat bag, or to through in your sheath (not provided), these will work nicely for you. I can’t comment on the durability of the cutters other than what I provided above. They do cut nicely.

I was going to do some comparrison links, but really only find these at a couple of online stores. But you can check them out here at Outdoor Pro Shops.

There are several of this style plier in the market, and I’m guessing that these came from one of the various manufacturers that mass produce and label these for companies. They’ll certainly get you buy, and at the $29.99 price point, you can’t expect too many bells and whistles like the article I wrote on the Shimano AD Plier.
